MUSK’S X LAUNCHES MARKETPLACE TO RECLAIM INACTIVE USERNAMES FOR PREMIUM SUBSCRIBERS

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has introduced a new marketplace allowing Premium Business and Premium+ subscribers to request or buy inactive usernames. The marketplace offers two types of handles: free priority usernames featuring full names or phrases, and rare usernames like “@Tom” or “@Pizza,” which are sold by invitation or public application.

Subscribers can get priority handles free of charge with responses within three days, but these revert if their subscription ends. Rare usernames, often short and highly sought after, remain with users permanently once purchased. This move aims to reduce bot abuse and increase paid subscriptions while unlocking popular usernames tied to inactive accounts.
