MINISTER UMAHI SLAMS CCECC FOR POOR WORK ON ENUGU-PORT HARCOURT ROAD, THREATENS TERMINATION

The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, has condemned the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) for substandard work on the Aba-bound section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. After inspecting the project, Umahi revealed the 43km stretch is near total failure due to the contractor’s poor construction practices and noncompliance with new ministry standards.

Umahi said CCECC will receive a 14-day termination notice unless it fixes the binder course at its own cost. The Port Harcourt-bound road will be removed from CCECC’s contract and awarded to a competent indigenous firm immediately. Meanwhile, the Minister praised Arab Contractors for excellent progress on the Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriageway in Abia, now 85% complete. Umahi affirmed the renewed administration’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s roads as key economic lifelines.
