The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Kwara State Chapter is urging the federal, state, and local governments to overhaul Nigeria’s healthcare system with broad policy reforms. Speaking during the 2025 Physicians’ Week in Ilorin, NMA Chairman Professor Abdulrahman Afolabi emphasized healthcare as a continuous system from policy to patient outcomes where every link matters.
He highlighted chronic underfunding, policy gaps, staff shortages, and weak infrastructure as key challenges hampering quality care. Afolabi stressed adopting a systemic, patient-centered approach and urged policymakers to engage practitioners in reforms. On AI in medicine, he warned that technology should support not replace physician judgment, emphasizing compassion and ethics remain central in healthcare.
