Egypt continued its unbeatable run at the African Table Tennis Championships, with stars Assar and Hana Goda leading the men’s and women’s teams to gold at the 8-day tournament in Tunis. The women swept Uganda 3-0 to secure their record 18th title, while the men edged past Algeria after a thrilling semifinal win over Nigeria, earning their 16th championship.
Uganda made history as the first East African nation to reach the women’s final, stunning Nigeria before falling to Egypt’s dominance. Morocco and Nigeria both claimed bronze in the men’s competition.
Individually, Omar Assar set a new record by winning his fifth men’s singles title, while the young Hana Goda became the first player to win three consecutive women’s singles titles. Egypt’s strength extended to the doubles, clinching all three categories — mixed, women’s, and men’s doubles completing a clean sweep that showcased their continental supremacy.
