The Consul General of China in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, has announced ambitious plans to boost global women’s empowerment through fresh initiatives and stronger international cooperation. Speaking at the Lagos Forum: Women’s Empowerment Dialogue, she highlighted China’s commitment to gender equality as a core policy, backed by President Xi Jinping’s pledge of $110 million over five years for women’s advancement worldwide.
China will launch 1,000 livelihood projects focusing on women and girls, invite 50,000 women for training in China, and establish a Global Centre for Women’s Capacity Building. Yan also praised Nigeria’s progress and called for joint action to overcome the challenges women face globally, emphasizing that empowering women is an investment in peace and prosperity.
