Dr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele, President of the University of Lagos Alumni Association, has appealed to ASUU lecturers to suspend their strike and resume classes, reminding everyone that no problem is unsolvable. His call came during the association’s 55th Anniversary Awards and Recognition Dinner at Eko Hotel, Lagos.
The Alumni Association has been a powerhouse for UNILAG’s growth, facilitating landmark projects like the Erastus Akingbola Postgraduate Hall, Alumni Shopping Complex, and Alumni Garden. Innovations such as a new mobile app and a bottom-up governance model are making alumni engagement easier and more transparent.
Excitingly, the association has secured land within the campus for an 1,800-bed student hostel to tackle accommodation issues, with construction set to start soon. Plans to institute prizes in character for staff and graduates will also launch at the next convocation, honoring distinguished alumni who inspire excellence.
UNILAG’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, reaffirmed strong collaboration with the alumni, while dignitaries like Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Chief Wole Olanipekun, and Dr. John Momoh received lifetime achievement awards. This event celebrated UNILAG’s legacy and looked forward to a future of innovation and inclusiveness.
