A fresh chapter for Nigeria’s electoral body starts now! Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, known for his legal expertise and academic excellence, has been confirmed by the Senate as INEC Chairman, succeeding Prof. Mahmood Yakubu after a decade-long tenure.
Born in Kogi State, Amupitan holds a PhD in law and serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos. His rich background in academia, legal reforms, and institutional governance raises hopes for strengthened electoral credibility, transparency, and the use of technology to improve voter registration and polling processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
Amupitan vowed to work closely with agencies like the National Identity Management Commission to enhance the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system, balancing independence and political pressures while building voter trust.
