NDPC UNVEILS YORUBA TRANSLATION OF DATA PROTECTION ACT TO BOOST DIGITAL INCLUSION

Nigeria is bridging digital gaps! The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), in partnership with Meta, launched the Yoruba version of the Data Protection Act, making digital rights accessible to millions of Nigerians in their native language.

NDPC’s National Commissioner, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, said this is a vital step to ensure everyone whether they speak English or not understands their data rights and responsibilities. The translation helps local content creators protect their digital identities and actively participate in Nigeria’s growing data economy. This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing digital innovation and youth empowerment. Similar versions in Igbo and Hausa are set to follow.

Traditional rulers and government officials praised the move, calling it a game-changer for grassroots digital literacy and protecting everyday Nigerians’ data privacy.
