LAGOS HEALTH OFFICIALS URGE PUBLIC TO PRIORITIZE SAVING LIVES OVER FILMING ACCIDENTS ON WORLD TRAUMA DAY

Lagos Health Commissioner Prof. Akin Abayomi, speaking at the 2025 World Trauma Day symposium, urged Lagosians to stop delaying emergency response by filming accidents instead of helping. He reminded that saving lives on the roads is everyone’s responsibility, not just the government’s.

Highlighting Lagos’s progress with state-of-the-art ambulance services like LASAMBUS and new emergency units, officials stressed the importance of respecting ambulances and improving public road behavior. Stories like Mr. Andrew’s recovery, thanks to prompt trauma care, show trauma management’s life-saving power.

Speakers, including the FRSC’s Kehinde Hamzat, warned against unsafe driving habits fueling preventable road deaths and called for community vigilance and changed attitudes toward emergency responders. The symposium concluded with plans for public campaigns aimed at reducing road trauma deaths across Lagos.
