FOOD EXPERTS PUSH FOR STRONG TEAMWORK TO ENSURE FOOD SAFETY AND HEALTH IN NIGERIA

It takes a village to fight food-borne diseases! Nutrition specialists call for united action across sectors to protect Nigeria’s food system and public health.

At a webinar by the Nutrition Society of Nigeria to mark World Food Day 2025, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” experts stressed the vital role of food safety in preventing disease. Prof. Oluwatosin Adu highlighted personal, food handling, and environmental hygiene as key to safety, urging proper sourcing, cooking, and storage.

Dr. Chioma Emma-Nwachukwu emphasized nutrition as medicine, advocating diets rich in protein, fiber, and plant-based foods while avoiding processed items linked to cancers and chronic illnesses.

Together, government, nutritionists, media, schools, and communities must foster healthy eating habits to build a healthier, more resilient Nigeria.
