Nigeria’s future farmers are sprouting! The Federal Government is encouraging schools nationwide to join the Young Farmers’ Club initiative, aiming to boost food security, productivity, and agricultural skills among students.
Minister Sen. Aliyu Abdullahi visited 1st UBE Primary School, Pasali, Kuje during World Food Day, celebrating student-run farming projects and promoting the motto: “Produce what you eat and eat what you produce.” The initiative teaches modern farming, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance, echoing First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s “Every Home a Garden” program.
Animal husbandry is also being integrated to complete agriculture education, ensuring children know food doesn’t just come from supermarkets. Schools like Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse, and others are already active in this programme supported by government inputs for sustainable school farming.
