FCTA DEMOLISHES 11 ILLEGAL HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS IN APO-DUTSE OVER SAFETY AND REGULATORY VIOLATIONS

Safety first! The FCTA took decisive action by demolishing 11 buildings in Apo-Dutse, Abuja, that were illegally constructed under high-tension power lines and on water channels, despite numerous warnings and rejection of building plans.

The Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, explained that these buildings posed severe safety and environmental risks. The developers ignored all notices, even after applying for approval—which was declined due to proximity to high-tension lines and water streams—and moved ahead with construction. The estate’s location was also blocking a planned bridge.

Galadima emphasised that the land was properly allocated but wrongly developed, and the government has offered alternative sites, which the developers have yet to accept. The action underscores the FCTA’s commitment to enforcing building regulations and safeguarding public safety in Abuja.
