EFCC CHAIRMAN OLA OLUKOYEDE RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT OF WEST AFRICA’S ANTI-CORRUPTION NETWORK

Leading the fight against corruption! Mr Ola Olukoyede secures another term as NACIWA President, reinforcing Nigeria’s role in battling economic crime across West Africa.

At the 7th Annual General Assembly of the Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) held in Abuja, all ECOWAS member states unanimously re-elected Olukoyede. The move recognized his outstanding leadership in tackling trans-border economic and financial crimes in the region.

The assembly also adopted new ECOWAS guidelines on borderless investigations, asset tracing, recovery, and management, urging member states to adopt them nationally for a harmonized regional fight against corruption.

The communiqué reaffirmed commitment to international frameworks including the 2001 ECOWAS Protocol on Corruption, the UN Convention against Corruption, and the African Union Convention on Preventing Corruption. It also emphasized stronger collaboration with financial intelligence units, law enforcement, civil society, and media.

President Bola Tinubu, who opened the assembly, called for ECOWAS to declare resource theft especially illegal mining and mineral smuggling an international crime threatening regional peace and prosperity.
