A staggering 97% of Filipinos believe corruption in government is widespread, reveals a recent nationwide Pulse Asia survey. Most have noticed an increase in corruption over the past year, with 59% accepting it as a normal part of politics.
The survey of 1,200 adults highlights that bribery, misuse of public funds, and kickbacks are widely seen as corrupt acts. Insider trading, tax evasion, and nepotism also rank high on the corruption list.
This comes amid ongoing Senate and House investigations into flood control project anomalies and massive protests in Manila denouncing corruption involving senior officials.
Filipinos are clearly calling for accountability and transparency to clean up governance.
