UNICAL EVICTS SENIOR STAFF FROM QUARTERS TO PRIORITIZE JUNIOR STAFF HOUSING

The University of Calabar (UniCal) has evicted some senior staff from the Boys’ Quarters after uncovering that they illegally rented them out to students and outsiders, collecting up to ₦350,000 yearly while paying the university much less. Spokesperson Mr. Eyo Effiong said the action aims to curb unethical practices and boost housing for junior staff.

The reclaimed apartments will now be allocated directly to junior staff to ensure better accountability. However, some senior staff condemned the eviction as heavy-handed, complaining of broken doors and thrown-out belongings even for those on sabbatical.

One senior staff questioned how they can manage without quarters for house helps and warned the situation may spark tension if not handled carefully.
