MOTHER OF RESCUED BABY BOY IN EBONYI PLEADS FOR HELP TO CARE FOR CHILD

Iroko, the mother of the 5-day-old baby boy who was sold by his father in Ebonyi, is reaching out for support from individuals and NGOs to help care for her rescued child. The baby was recovered by police from the buyer on October 10 after the father, Chukwuma Onwe, reportedly sold him shortly after birth. Iroko revealed that Onwe, who lived with her, pretended to care for the baby but instead sold him, leaving her alone and struggling with two other children from a different father.

Iroko expressed confusion and distress over the father’s actions and pleaded for assistance from the government and well-wishers to ensure her son’s wellbeing. Police spokesman Joshua Ukandu confirmed that both the father and buyer remain in custody as investigations continue.
