The Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to step up monitoring of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) depots to prevent hoarding following recent sharp price increases. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, revealed that LPG prices have jumped from around N1,000–N1,100 per kg to as high as N1,700 in some areas, mainly due to a strike at Dangote Refinery and maintenance work at the Nigeria LNG facility.
With refinery and terminal operations now resuming, Dr. Ekpo assured the public that supply should stabilize soon and prices will gradually drop. He called on marketers and distributors to act patriotically by avoiding hoarding and price exploitation, emphasizing that the LPG market is deregulated but must remain fair and accessible. The government remains committed to affordable, reliable gas supply for every household.
