Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), making waves at Wednesday’s State Executive Council Meeting in Yenagoa. Alongside him, all 19 PDP members of the State House of Assembly, including Speaker Abraham Ingobere, and members of the state executive council have also quit the party.
Governor Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, confirmed the resignation on social media. Many now expect the governor and his followers to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the recent defection of Enugu’s Governor Peter Mbah from PDP to APC.
Mbah defended his move, saying it was not betrayal but a responsibility to serve his people better on a platform that recognizes their voice.
The political landscape in Bayelsa and beyond is shifting fast as power dynamics continue to evolve ahead of the 2027 elections.
