Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, called for stronger regional collaboration among West African insurers to boost resilience against escalating economic threats from climate change. Speaking at the 2025 WAICA Education Conference in Lagos, she stressed that climate change is no longer just an environmental issue but a financial and developmental challenge affecting fiscal policies and government budgets across the region.
Uzoka-Anite urged collective action through platforms like WAICA to share risk, exchange data, and build capacity for innovative insurance solutions that support agriculture, trade, and small businesses. She highlighted Nigeria’s Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025 and ongoing climate finance strategies designed to ensure swift disaster response and fiscal stability. The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernizing the insurance industry through coordinated policies and global partnerships.
