The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is cracking down hard on certificate racketeering and academic fraud after a Punch report revealed private polytechnics in Nigeria allegedly colluding with blacklisted universities in Benin Republic to fake NYSC mobilisations using forged diplomas. NBTE’s Head of Media, Mrs. Fatima Abubakar, stressed the agency’s zero-tolerance policy and assured that preliminary investigations are underway in collaboration with the NYSC and media houses. Institutions caught involved face serious consequences, including withdrawal of operational licenses and prosecution.
Abubakar also highlighted NBTE’s ongoing partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and other agencies to safeguard technical education’s credibility. The board praised investigative journalism for exposing these abuses, urging the public and stakeholders to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately. NBTE remains committed to transparency, accountability, and restoring trust in Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system.
This crackdown sends a powerful message: cheating won’t be swept under the rug, and Nigeria’s educational standards must be defended at all costs.
