LPG USERS, RETAILERS URGE FG TO ENSURE STEADY SUPPLY AND PRICE STABILITY

Consumers and retailers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), or cooking gas, are calling on the Federal Government to secure consistent availability and stable prices following recent hikes linked to the Dangote Refinery strike. Speaking to NAN in Abuja, users acknowledged that queues and shortages are easing but stressed government action is needed to fully restore supply and regulate pricing. The NNPC blamed the price surge on disruption during the petroleum workers’ strike, which ended in early October thanks to government intervention.

Prices jumped from about N1,100–N1,200 per kg to as high as N1,800 in some areas, sparking frustration among consumers like Mrs. Rose Peters and John Okoro who urge affordable prices to support Nigeria’s clean energy goals. Retailer Promise Ajujumbu of the LPG Retailers Association explained how supply chains struggled with tanker delays but expect normalcy soon. All agree close government cooperation with the Dangote Refinery is key to bringing prices down and keeping cooking gas accessible.
