The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that a heartbreaking crash on the Lokoja–Obajana highway in Kogi State left 10 dead and 11 injured. The accident happened late Friday night near Apamaru community when a commercial vehicle lost control after excessive speeding and a wrongful overtaking maneuver. According to the FRSC, the driver veered suddenly off his lane during a night journey, making evacuation and rescue difficult. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed called on commercial drivers to avoid night travel and reckless driving, emphasizing that these are major causes of fatal crashes nationwide.
He also reminded passengers to be proactive about their safety by reporting dangerous drivers. The FRSC plans to increase patrols and enforcement against overloading, speeding, and night travel on major highways. Medical teams and emergency responders rushed to the scene to attend to the injured, some of whom are in critical condition.
“This tragedy is a solemn reminder that safety must be everyone’s priority on our roads,” Mohammed said. The FRSC continues public awareness campaigns aiming to reduce accidents and save lives across Nigeria.
