President Bola Tinubu chaired a crucial meeting of the Nigeria Police Council, approving a robust institutional framework to accelerate reforms in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Key among decisions is boosting funding for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) by removing its six-year sunset clause and doubling its statutory deduction from 0.5% to 1% of the Federation Account.
Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam explained this move aims to secure stable, long-term financing for modern policing tools, training, welfare, and technology-driven systems to improve national security and police accountability. The Council also confirmed appointments and approved mercy for 175 inmates, while national honours were awarded to 959 outstanding Nigerians.
