The Federal Government has unveiled a new security strategy with the rollout of the Forest Guards Initiative, aimed at flushing out bandits, kidnappers, and criminal gangs hiding in Nigeria’s forests. NSA Babagana Umara Ribadu announced the deployment of over 130,000 armed forest guards across 1,129 forest and game reserves, starting with pilot states like Adamawa, Borno, and Niger.
This bold move, approved by President Bola Tinubu, marks a decisive shift to protect vulnerable rural communities and secure natural assets by taking the fight directly to criminals’ hideouts. The initiative, coordinated by ONSA and the Ministry of Environment in partnership with state governments, seeks collective commitment and strong political will for lasting success.
