WHO SAYS HEALTH PROMOTION IS KEY TO IMPROVING NIGERIA’S HEALTH SYSTEM

Dr. Kingsley Igwebuike from WHO says health promotion is more than just raising awareness; it’s about empowering people and creating environments that make healthy living easier. This includes tackling social, economic, and political factors that affect health outcomes.

He explains that while health education changes individual behavior, health promotion combines education with policies that support everyone’s well-being. It links directly to key Sustainable Development Goals like zero hunger, quality education, and clean water. Challenges like funding gaps, cultural barriers, and misinformation must be tackled with stronger community engagement and better cross-sector collaboration. Prevention through health promotion offers the most cost-effective path to universal health coverage.
