OVER 40% OF AUSTRALIAN CYBERCRIME VICTIMS FACE MULTIPLE ATTACKS IN 2024

New report reveals the growing complexity of cyber threats hitting nearly half of Australians.

The Australian Institute of Criminology’s 2024 report shows that 42.1% of cybercrime victims suffer multiple types of attacks annually, with 47.4% experiencing some form of cybercrime. Online abuse and harassment topped the list, affecting 26.8%, followed by identity crime and misuse. Fraud and scams, while less common at 9.5%, left victims highly vulnerable to other crimes. AFP Cyber Commander Graeme Marshall stressed the need for ongoing vigilance as cybercriminals exploit any weakness repeatedly. Victims facing three or more cybercrime types were significantly more likely to endure health, financial, and legal impacts.
