OAU don pioneers indigenous clean energy tech and innovation platform to boost African research and development.
Dr. Adam Muritala, Associate Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, has invented the Afri-inverter—an indigenous, lightweight lithium battery-powered device with mainly locally sourced parts. He founded the African Pro-Humanity Technology Hub (APHTH) to drive research commercialization and AI-driven education, aiming to close the gap between innovation and real-world impact in Nigeria. Muritala calls for investors to reduce costs and expand access, affirming that revamping Nigeria’s universities is key to national growth. His recent book critiques the university system and advocates reforms to empower engineering graduates and fuel progress.
