NIGERIAN ARMY DENIES BANDITS OVERRAN TROOPS IN KWARA; CALLS REPORTS FALSE

Army refutes claims of weapons loss, highlights recent successes in ongoing security operations.

The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false a viral report claiming bandits overpowered soldiers and seized six machine guns plus 30,000 rounds of ammunition in Kwara’s Obanla area. Lt.-Col. Polycarp Okoye stated troops, notably the 148 Battalion, have maintained control and neutralized armed bandits, recovering weapons including two new AK-47s. The Army called the report a fabrication meant to mislead the public and undermine morale, urging continued public support and credible intelligence sharing for security efforts in Kwara, Kogi, and neighboring states.
