Nigerians across the U.S. transformed New York’s Madison Avenue into a vibrant celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day with a lively parade and carnival on Saturday. The event showcased a stunning mix of culture, music, and patriotism, drawing thousands of Nigerians and friends of Nigeria. From traditional attire and colorful floats to spirited dance troupes, the streets echoed with cheers and joy as uniformed contingents and diaspora groups marched together.
Dignitaries including Nigeria’s Consul General Abubakar Jidda and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed joined the festivities, highlighting Nigeria’s global significance. The celebration moved from the parade route to Madison Square Park, where popular Nigerian artist Bella Shmurda thrilled the crowd with energetic performances.
