NIGERIAN NAVY CHIEF CALLS FOR HOMEGROWN TECH TO SHAPE FUTURE MARITIME SECURITY

Vice Adm. Ogalla urges Nigerian Navy to innovate locally for superior maritime defence.

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, emphasized the need for Nigeria to boost indigenous technology in maritime security during the Navy’s Research and Development seminar in Abuja. Facing fast-evolving threats like piracy and smuggling, Ogalla noted technological edge—over fleet size—would decide security dominance. He called for accelerating local production of radars, drones, navigation, and communication systems, while launching innovation hubs and hackathons to harness naval talent. The Navy also prioritizes welfare improvements alongside technology to ensure well-equipped, motivated personnel.
