Abuja’s nights to shine bright with solar-powered lights featuring anti-vandal tech, securing the capital’s future.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike launched the “Light up Abuja” project, installing integrated hybrid solar streetlights across key districts and expressways to reduce crime and maintenance costs. The system includes surveillance modules and a control room to deter vandalism. Covering areas like Maitama, Wuse, Asokoro, and Katampe, the six-month project aims to restore light to a city previously plunged in darkness, enhance safety, and support Abuja’s global aspirations ahead of its 50th anniversary in 2026.
