After pulling five survivors, teams begin cautious debris clearance at collapsed Al Khoziny boarding school.
Rescue teams at the Al Khoziny Islamic boarding school in East Java’s Sidoarjo district shifted from manual searches to using excavators and heavy machinery after advanced drones and sensors failed to detect any more signs of life under the rubble. The four-storey building collapsed during prayer on Monday, killing five confirmed and leaving nearly 60 missing, mostly teens. Over 200 personnel, including engineers and police, work carefully to avoid further collapse. The tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about poorly enforced building standards in Indonesia’s vast network of pesantren schools.
