NIS STARTS CRACKDOWN ON FOREIGNERS WITH EXPIRED VISAS

Enforcement begins after visa amnesty ends; offenders face fines, bans, and deportation.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced nationwide enforcement starting October 1, targeting foreign nationals who overstayed visas or broke entry rules after the Federal Government’s expired visa amnesty ended on September 30. Offenders with less than three months overstay face removal, $15 daily fines, or 2-year bans. Longer overstays carry harsher fines, removal, and bans lasting up to 10 years or permanent. NIS remains committed to lawful migration, national security, and transparency in immigration processes.
