HEALTH EXPERTS URGE URGENT ACTION TO PREVENT HEPATITIS B TRANSMISSION IN NIGERIA

Avoid sharps, unsafe injections, and unscreened blood to protect your heart and liver health.

Dr. Olaniyi Ogundokun, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at State Hospital Oyo, warns Nigerians to take immediate precautions against Hepatitis B by avoiding sharing sharp objects, unsafe injections, and unscreened blood transfusions. He emphasized that safe male circumcision should be done only in certified facilities, and all pregnant women should get screened to prevent mother-to-child transmission. Ogundokun highlighted that liver cirrhosis and cancer are leading causes of liver deaths, strongly urging early medical intervention and vaccination. The Nigerian Heart Foundation and health bodies back increased awareness, vaccination campaigns, and community health screenings to save lives.
