Nigeria’s airports go cashless to boost transparency, efficiency, and customer convenience.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced a contactless payment system at Lagos and Abuja airports under the “Operation Go Cashless” initiative, aiming to triple revenue by reducing cash handling. MD Olubunmi Kuku said this move ensures every naira due is accounted for, enhances transparency, and aligns Nigeria with global best practices. The system, launched in partnership with Paystack, allows passengers to use a digital card for secure, traceable payments at access gates, car parks, and VIP lounges. Brand ambassadors are deployed to assist users, and the policy will expand nationwide by early 2026, gradually phasing out cash payments.
This shift not only improves revenue collection but also accelerates passenger flow and reduces corruption risks, positioning Nigerian airports as modern, efficient hubs ready for global business.
