Government warns Europe is entering an era of “hybrid warfare” with drone incursions hitting multiple countries.
Denmark’s government acknowledged a new security reality following a week of drone sightings that forced airport closures and high alert across the country. Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard likened the drone incidents to the 9/11 terrorist threat, labeling them part of ongoing hybrid warfare affecting several European nations including Germany. Since last Monday, Copenhagen Airport and other key airports were temporarily shut down due to drone activity, with hundreds of sightings reported but no major disruptions in recent days. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said investigations continue and possible Russian involvement remains unconfirmed, with the Kremlin denying all allegations. Authorities are ramping up intelligence and defense measures as NATO enhances Baltic region vigilance.
