OBA OF BENIN TO COMMENCE NEW YAM EATING AFTER PALACE CEREMONY

After two weeks of fasting and prayers, Benin Kingdom ushers in new yam season for peace and harvest.

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has announced that the Benin Kingdom will begin eating new yams on September 30 following a palace ceremony. This marks the end of a two-week fasting and prayer period held for peace, progress, and a bountiful harvest. The indoor ceremony ushers the sacred new yam (Emorho) into the palace, allowing all sons, daughters, indigenes, and non-indigenes in Edo to partake. The Oba thanked everyone who joined the spiritual exercise and prayed for peace and happiness across homes and communities.
