Nigeria’s food safety steps up as edible oil must now move in dedicated green-painted tankers.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has ordered all edible oil manufacturers and distributors to adopt green-painted tankers within two weeks to prevent contamination risks from non-dedicated vehicles. The move targets public health protection by banning the use of petroleum and diesel trucks for cooking oil transport, a practice deemed unsafe. NAFDAC warned that defaulters face strict sanctions and emphasized that safeguarding Nigerians’ health is a national security priority. The directive enjoys full support from tanker unions and industry players, aiming to ensure safe, clean edible oil supply nationwide.
