FG SECURES MAJOR PRICE DROP FOR REVOLUTIONARY HIV PREVENTION DRUG

Nigeria leads the way in making breakthrough HIV prevention affordable for millions.

The Federal Government has successfully negotiated a dramatic price cut for lenacapavir, a twice-yearly HIV prevention injection, slashing the cost from $28,000 to just $40 per person. National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) Director-General Dr. Temitope Ilori hailed the deal at the 80th UN General Assembly, emphasizing lenacapavir’s nearly 100% effectiveness and its potential to transform HIV prevention access in Nigeria and beyond.

This historic agreement, made possible through partnerships with UNITAID, CHAI, Wits RHI, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, and the Gates Foundation, underscores Nigeria’s commitment to ending HIV as a public health threat by 2030 by expanding prevention and strengthening health systems.
