Life-saving maternal care delivers four healthy babies, highlighting progress in Nigeria’s healthcare.
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) celebrated a remarkable birth of quadruplets at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, under its Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) programme. The babies two boys and two girls were born via C-section on September 18, saving the mother and newborns from severe complications. NHIA Director General Dr. Kelechi Ohiri praised timely access to care and free treatments that protect vulnerable families from financial hardship.
Since the programme targets underserved areas, 422 pregnant women have benefited so far, with this delivery marking a historic milestone. The federal government is expanding such emergency care centres across Nigeria, enhancing maternal health through upgraded facilities, referral transport, and empowered community health workers to ensure accessible, quality care for mothers and newborns nationwide.
