Nigeria pushes for global backing to strengthen its role in shaping international civil aviation.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, called on delegates at the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal to support Nigeria’s re-election to Part 2 of the ICAO Council. Highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to safe, secure, and sustainable air transport, Keyamo emphasized investments in infrastructure, regulatory reforms, and regional leadership, including hosting the Banjul Accord Group Aviation Safety Oversight Organisation (BAGASOO). He also assured continued environmental responsibility through carbon emission reduction initiatives like CORSIA.
The ICAO Council, composed of 36 member states, governs international civil aviation with elections divided into three parts ensuring balanced geographic and functional representation. Nigeria’s sought category includes countries contributing significantly to aviation infrastructure globally. Keyamo invited delegates to Nigeria’s International Airshow in Abuja this December to showcase the nation’s progress and collaboration in the aviation sector.
