Nigeria launches a nationwide crackdown on fake degrees with digital verification.
The Federal Government announced the nationwide enforcement of the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank’s (NERD) policy on academic credential verification, set to begin October 6. Ministries, agencies, and higher institutions must verify all staff qualifications through NERD’s National Credential Verification Service (NCVS) before confirming appointments. Every verified certificate will carry a unique National Credential Number, ensuring authenticity and combating fraud.
NERD, led by the Ministry of Education and supported by key educational bodies, aims to secure Nigeria’s education integrity, boost global competitiveness, and provide a centralized digital platform for instant credential verification across the nation. Institutions and agencies are urged to enroll their designated officials for smooth implementation.
