EU ramps up pressure on Russia by cutting fossil fuel revenues amid ongoing conflict.
The European Commission plans to advance the ban on Russian liquefied natural gas imports to early 2027 as part of its 19th sanctions package. President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce dependence on Russian fossil fuels, aiming to “turn off the tap” on Russia’s war economy. The package also targets financial and trade sectors, pending unanimous EU member approval.
