FORMER RIVERS GOV OMEHIA OPPOSES STATE POLICE, CALLS FOR ELECTORAL REFORMS

Warns state police could be abused by governors, proposes elected INEC leadership and fiscal federalism.

Sir Celestine Omehia argues against state police in Nigeria, citing governors’ incompetence and risk of political misuse during elections. In his new book, he advocates for retaining INEC but making its leadership elected and constitutionally funded for true independence. Omehia also proposes a new revenue-sharing formula to empower states and dismisses reverting to regional governance, praising state creation for minority protection.
