Cape Verde edged Cameroon 1-0 to lead Group D, handing Cameroon their first loss under coach Marc Brys. Egypt and Burkina Faso played a tense 0-0 draw, while Togo got their first win beating Sudan 1-0. Nigeria and South Africa drew 1-1 in a crucial battle, leaving Nigeria needing wins to stay on track.
