Nigeria bids for Category C seat at IMO, pledging strong, responsible leadership and maritime security.
Nigeria, led by Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, kicked off its campaign in New York for a 2026–2027 International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council seat. Highlighting Nigeria’s strategic maritime position, vast coastline, and landmark security achievements like the Deep Blue Project, Oyetola promised responsible, inclusive leadership focused on regional cooperation and sustainable maritime governance. With commitment to IMO conventions and investments in maritime education, Nigeria aims to shape global shipping’s future and enhance West Africa’s maritime safety.
