Sports Writers demand stricter age checks to protect grassroots sports integrity in Nigeria.
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) condemned widespread age cheating at the 9th National Youth Games and called on the National Sports Commission to enforce tougher verification. They applauded Delta State’s hosting and Team Lagos’ first overall win but stressed the need for investment in youth sports and inclusion of media access in state sports coverage. SWAN also urged professionalism, gender inclusion, and facility upgrades ahead of the 2026 National Sports Festival.
