Abuja’s National Assembly was abuzz Wednesday as key reps tackled local government reforms and geared up to host West Africa’s top public accounts gathering — all in a day’s legislative hustle!
On Wednesday, September 3, reps from the House of Representatives rolled out initiatives to sharpen local government capacities and rethink Nigeria’s revenue sharing. Rep. Paschal Agbodike, representing the Speaker, joined Committee Chair Richard Bamisile and Deputy Dominic Okafor at the National Assembly Complex for a dynamic National Retreat and Workshop. The focus? Enhancing local council skills and reviewing the vertical revenue allocation formula, teaming up closely with ALGON to drive grassroots impact.
Meanwhile, neighbours in the hall, the Public Accounts Committee, led by Chairman Bamidele Salam alongside Deputy Chairman Jeremiah Umaru and member Abiodun Akinlade, informed journalists about the upcoming 11th West African Association of Public Accounts Committee (WAAPAC) Annual Conference and General Assembly. The event promises to spotlight audit accountability across the region.
With local governance on the rise and transparency in the spotlight, Abuja’s lawmakers aren’t just talking the talk — they’re setting the stage for real action.
