Owo Local Government takes a tech leap, using drones to combat river blindness and protect communities.
Owo LG, Ondo State, unveiled an AI-powered drone to target blackflies spreading river blindness in Owo and Ose LGAs. The drone sprays insecticides in hard-to-reach breeding sites, ensuring precise and eco-friendly control. This innovative project, in partnership with King’s College African Leadership Centre, aims to reduce skin and eye diseases and support the Ondo State School for the Visually Impaired. The council also plans to share findings globally at Queen’s University on World Sight Day.
