When fiery demands meet barricades—protesters and security locked horns in Abuja as the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum (NDENYLF) stormed NNPCL’s gates, accusing the group MD of corruption, job cuts, and office abuse.
Abuja witnessed a heated standoff on Wednesday as members of the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum (NDENYLF) descended on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) headquarters. The protest, sparked by allegations of corruption, unlawful termination of Niger Delta directors, and abuse of office by the NNPCL group managing director, led to a tense barricade showdown with security personnel.
As the youths pressed their demands, security forces firmly blocked the gates, preventing entry and escalating tensions. Undeterred, the protesters set up tents at the entrance, signaling a readiness for a prolonged sit-in until their voices were heard. Comrade Jonathan Lokpobri, convener of the forum, passionately addressed the gathering, outlining their grievances and calling for justice.
The protest underscores simmering frustration in the Niger Delta over perceived marginalization and corporate misconduct within NNPCL’s leadership. As talks remain stalled, the battle lines in Abuja hint at more heated days ahead.
